Did you know sophisticated lasers help dentists more effectively treat gum disease?

No, not like Dr. Evil…the type of laser therapy going on at our Somerset NJ dentist office is a modern way to treat gum disease.

Somerset NJ Laser Gum Disease TherapyPeriodontal or gum disease occurs when bacteria gets below the gum line between the gum and the individual tooth.

Did you know that three out of four Americans have some form of periodontal (gum) disease and only 3 out of 100 will ever get treated before its too late?

As you can learn on our website, gum disease is a silent, chronic, painless and communicable bacterial infection that often goes undetected or ignored until severe gum and bone destruction is unbearable and no longer able to be ignored.

Left untreated, gum disease can cause tooth loss and traditional treatment can cause pain or discomfort.

When patients visit our Somerset NJ dentist office, sometimes we catch ourselves using some pretty scientific sounding terms to describe normal dental health problems and procedures.

We usually figure this out by the quizzical looks we receive from our patients, but just in case we’ve compiled this dental dictionary list of terms to help you understand what we’re talking about the next time you find yourself in the dental chair here at Advanced Dental Arts.

Can You Decipher What Your Dentist Is Talking About?

Patients may hear their dentists talking with hygienists or assistants and think they need a dictionary to decipher what’s being said, but usually it’s just clinicalspeak for what is most likely routine type dental health treatments and procedures.
Somerset NJ Dentist Deciphers Dental Terms
Dental professionals may think it’s perfectly normal to say something like, “Take care of the prophy first, then we can go ahead and address the mesial perforation on that pesky lateral incisor.”

But from the patient’s perspective, that sure sounds like a lot of hoo-ha for what was supposed to be a normal six month checkup and cleaning!

We call that a “recall” appointment, BTW.

Fret no more, we’ll be glad to explain any term you don’t know, of course – just ask if we don’t catch ourselves first.

After all, we wouldn’t want you to come back to our Somerset NJ dental office in six months for your recall appointment all edentulous with xerostomia now would we?

Our dental health dictionary to decipher what your dentist is actually talking about, here are a few of the most commonly used terms heard around our Somerset dental office.

We have a lot of great events and attractions here in the Garden State; from skiing in the north down the Shore to the beautiful beaches of Cape May, New Jersey really does have it all.

One of the most popular attractions in the state is definitely the beaches, casinos, and boardwalk of Atlantic City.

Whenever we get a chance to share some local down home news from right here in Somerset and Franklin Township, or elsewhere in New Jersey, we’re going to jump on it.

Atlantic City Challenge Ironman Distance Triathlon

One of our friends here at Advanced Dental Arts recently completed the Atlantic City Challenge Triathlon event held Sunday June 28th with a time of 15:29:52.

Now that is something to smile about ~ CONGRATULATIONS Kelly!!!  Smiling at Challenge Atlantic City Triathlon

We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share Kelly’s accomplishments, along with showcasing one of the premier swim, bike, & run races in not only New Jersey, but the entire country.

The Challenge Atlantic City triathlon began with a 2.4 mile swim in the calm back bays of Atlantic City. This 2 loop swim can easily be viewed from Historic Bader Field, our nation’s first airport!

From Bader Field, athletes then embarked on a 112 mile relatively flat bike course that encompasses varied scenery that includes expressways, farms, vineyards, and state forests…all within 10 minutes of the beach.

The run portion of the event presented these superhuman athletes with a course that finished in front of Historic Boardwalk Hall, home of Miss America, on the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Did you know Bader Field was our nation’s first airport?

Here are a couple of weather stats for you aspiring triathletes out there looking to get it in gear for next year’s Challenge Atlantic City event…
